Job identity and approval

  • Job code, customer, quantity, due date, use, and approver recorded.
  • DTG or DTF path named without ambiguous terms such as "digital transfer."
  • Artwork revision, location, finished size, orientation, and placement datum confirmed.
  • Garment supplier style, color, size range, batch, fiber label, and finish recorded.
  • Appearance, hand, care, durability, and tolerance requirements written.
  • Qualification sample and change-control rules defined.

File and RIP

  • Original and production files preserved under revision control.
  • Pixel dimensions, output dimensions, transparency, color mode, and profile checked.
  • Fine type, lines, gradients, neutral colors, and low-opacity edges inspected.
  • Color and white channels viewed separately where white ink is used.
  • RIP version, queue, profile, resolution or pass mode, ink limits, choke, orientation, and copies recorded.
  • A compact test target covers solids, gradients, edges, detail, and alignment.

Garment and environment

  • Correct garments counted and separated from unapproved substitutions.
  • Surface is dry, clean, flat, and free of loose lint or debris.
  • Seams, collars, pockets, zippers, drawcords, hoods, and layers are controlled.
  • Lightest and darkest colors and smallest and largest placements are represented.
  • Garment response to pretreatment, heat, pressure, and dwell has been tested.
  • Room and material conditions are inside the documented operating range.

DTG pretreatment

  • Pretreatment product, batch, storage, age, and agitation condition verified.
  • Application equipment is clean and its delivery check is current.
  • Garment starting mass, applied wet mass or other approved measure, area, and result recorded.
  • Coverage is even, with no dry bands, pools, edge buildup, or contamination.
  • Drying or pressing method follows the current product and equipment instructions.
  • Treated garment is flat, dry as specified, coded, and protected before printing.

North Carolina State University research on pretreatment in digital textile printing explains that pretreatment and post-treatment can affect droplet control, penetration, color strength, fastness, and image quality. The study does not supply a universal apparel recipe, so use it to justify controlled trials while taking amounts and processing limits from the current named system.

Printer readiness

  • Required startup, circulation, agitation, and environmental checks completed.

DTG print and fixation

  • Garment is loaded squarely without hidden folds, seams, or raised hardware.
  • Placement is verified before printing.
  • White and color output match the approved channel order and settings.
  • Wet print is protected from contact and contamination.
  • Fixation equipment, time, temperature control, pressure where relevant, and measuring method are recorded.
  • Finished garment cools flat before appearance and hand approval.

DTF film, adhesive, and transfer

  • Film side, batch, storage, surface, size, and orientation verified.
  • Print order, white alignment, image orientation, and margins confirmed.
  • Adhesive identity, batch, application, recovery policy, and excess-removal method controlled.
  • Processed transfer is free from gaps, contamination, stray adhesive, cracking, blocking, or damage.
  • Transfer storage time and conditions are within the approved window.
  • Press platen, pad, cover sheet, garment loading, heat, pressure, dwell, peel condition, and finishing step recorded.

It supports measuring rather than guessing, but its figures and observations apply to the named Brother workflow and do not set limits for other systems.

First-off, testing, and release

  • Cold first-off matches identity, placement, dimensions, color, opacity, detail, alignment, edge, and hand requirements.
  • No unapproved pretreatment mark, scorching, shine, distortion, transfer box, residue, or garment damage is present.
  • Specified stretch, flex, adhesion, abrasion, wash, dry, and dimensional tests pass.
  • Test conditions, observations, photographs, samples, and approver are recorded.
  • Inspection frequency and stop limits are defined for the run.
  • Failed output is quarantined back to the last passing check.
  • Accepted, tested, reworked, rejected, and unused quantities reconcile.
  • Final configuration, deviations, packing check, release, and records location are complete.

Common questions

Should pretreatment be measured on every garment?

Follow the qualified control plan. At minimum, establish a measured application and recheck at defined intervals, after changes, and when appearance shifts.

Does a passing nozzle check approve production?

No. It confirms one part of printer readiness. The complete garment, ink, treatment or transfer, heat, and finished tests still need approval.

Can a hot transfer be packed immediately?

Only if the approved product procedure permits it. Cooling, peel, finishing, inspection, and stacking conditions can affect the result.

When must the job be requalified?

Requalify when a change falls outside the approved range, including a new garment, consumable, profile, printer, press, maintenance condition, or process setting.
